The White House has responded after a photo appearing to show Donald Trump kissing his assistant went viral.<\/p>\n

In the image, which has been circulating on social media on September 16, the US president appears to be embracing a blonde woman on a golf course, who many quickly assumed was his 35-year-old aide, Natalie Harp, who has worked for Trump for around four years.<\/p>\n

While the authenticity of the image remains unknown, a spokesperson for the White House simply said the image was \u2018clearly a fake photo\u2019.
\nIndependent fact-checking site Snopes has been investigating the photo, and found that two different versions of the image are currently being shared online.<\/p>\n

One image is significantly higher resolution than the other and reportedly shows telltale signs of being edited with artificial intelligence, such as having hands with too many fingers, as well as a watermark showing it had been created or edited using OpenAI.<\/p>\n

Yet, the lower resolution image was said to be too blurry for any of these telltale signs to be visible.<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Speaking to Snopes, co-founder of deepfake detection company Get Real, Hany Farid, said the higher resolution image was clearly AI, but the lower resolution image\u2019s authenticity was \u2018inconclusive\u2019.<\/p>\n

The photo first started popping up on X on September 14, with one person commenting: \u201cThirty years ago, a photo like this could have destroyed a politician\u2019s career overnight. Today? Barely worth interrupting the news cycle.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut don\u2019t worry \u2014 I\u2019m sure the guardians of \u2018Christian family values\u2019 are preparing their furious statements as we speak.\u201d<\/p>\n

While only the back of the woman\u2019s head is visible in the image, fake or not, most have been quick to assume it\u2019s meant to be Natalie Harp, after a letter she penned to the president was leaked.<\/p>\n

The New York Times shared the letter, in which Harp appeared to apologize to Trump if she was \u2018an embarrassment\u2019 during their trip to a golf course in Scotland, where she was filmed running across the course to keep up with his cart.<\/p>\n

\u201cI also am sorry if I was an embarrassment walking the course in Scotland,\u201d she allegedly wrote.<\/strong><\/h1>\n

\u201cI want things to always be right between us. I also know I\u2019ve been distracted all week (forgetting to eat throughout the days, and even forgetting to sleep, and only catching a couple hours at a time).\u201d<\/p>\n

The publication said she signed off: \u201cWith all my heart, Natalie,\u201d having previously reported the aide told Trump: \u201cYou are all that matters to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

CNN, citing sources, also recounted an alleged incident in which Harp was so desperate to accompany Trump to court as he fought off several legal cases that, on being told there were no remaining seats in Trump\u2019s motorcade, travelled in the trunk of an SUV to be by his side.<\/p>\n

She has recently been in the spotlight after Georgia Democrat senator Jon Ossoff said during a rally that Trump \u2018doesn\u2019t want to do the job\u2019 of president, and would rather \u2018build his ballroom and travel with Natalie\u2019.<\/p>\n

For Trump\u2019s part, journalists Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan reported in their book Regime Change that Trump once told his staff that while \u2018all of you will go off and make money\u2019, Harp would \u2018never leave me\u2019\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/p>\n
